Nordic μW activity 10 May 2025
This event promotes portable (and stationary) microwave activity across the Nordic countries. We like to repeat the activity days we had 2024 with a new invitation for 2025 – but we hope for better WX this time! Because of poor WX 2024, both the first day and the alternative day was used.
Finding suitable dates is always a compromise, but we have concluded the selected days are probably good choices.
We also want to invite all who are interested, but without a station of their own or without a working station for the moment. Announce your interest and find someone that you can join not too far away.
In order to have as much activity as possible, the focus will be on 10 GHz. Those with stations also for higher or lower microwave bands, bring them along and use the occasion, but please prioritize 10 GHz to support a high activity!
We like to promote the activity all over the Nordics. So please register if you are interested!
When?
Primary date: 10 May 2025, starting at 10:00 UTC. As the weather may be different across the area, and also RS is of interest for some, no final check/email of activity will be sent out.
Spare date: If poor WX on the 10 May, we have a spare date 8 June 2025, starting at 10:00 UTC.
Information
A shared folder with planning files can be found at the link:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!AtQT2Bh_qH4Wg4MkLw34HSQKxc-Opw?e=Ha6B64
In the folder you will find both 2024 and 2025 sub-folders. The files:
- This information document, with possible updates
- An Excel spreadsheet with all that have registered. This file will be updated all the time. The spreadsheet includes calculations of distances and beam headings from one locator to all other registered stations.
- Maybe some more file…
Please be aware the files will be updated all the way up to the activity.
Registration
We like you to register as early as possible, so everyone gets an indication of the activity. To support early registration, we have added a status. If you are not sure you can join the activity when you register, you may indicate “Interested” and when you know that you will join you can let us know “Confirmed”.
For registration we like to know the following:
- Call
- First name
- If you don’t have a station but want to join someone, please set status to “Like to join” and add your locator. You can update later when the list of stations is being filled and you find a station you’d like to join.
- Status (“Interested” or “Confirmed”).
- Planned locator and location so others can find you.
- Bands you like to activate.
- Station on the different bands (Power and antenna).
- Sked (How can you communicate for skeds? KST chat? Mobile? Email?).
- Mobile number.
- Email.
To allow for planning ahead for all, please register as soon as possible. Having more registrations early will be a good motivation for others!
Please email your registration to one or both addresses below:
Skeds
The normal ways of arrangements and skeds can be used:
- Mobile/SMS
- VUSHF Nordic chat on Groups.io:
If you haven’t yet registered for this chat, please register in time since new registration needs approval.
Find your locator or direction.
In case you haven’t used it for a while, here are a couple of suggested tools for finding locator, beam directions and distances.
- With a PC, a good application is from K7FRY.
Find your location on the map either type in your locator or point + click and you’ll see the locator. Number of characters depends on map resolution, . For portable microwave activity 8- and 10-character locators are often used.
For beam direction use map or own locator and type in the other station locator + click “Show”.
- You find an Excel spreadsheet calculating directions & distance to all stations in the linked folder “uW activity day 2025 QTF QRB calc”.
You download the file, store it on your PC and type in your locator. The spreadsheet will then calculate distance and direction to each in the spreadsheet.
Also some common beacons will be in the list.
- There are several QTH apps available for your mobile or tablet. One that works OK for portable operation on Android is “Ham QTH Locator”.
We do hope you find this interesting and that you like to join! Some of you may have portable stations that have not been on the air for a while. Please clean off the dust and try to get the station running to join the activity!!!
